Starting off Decorative Gourd Season with lots of puns! First up, Oh My Gourd, It’s Fall! by the delightful Mr. Stevers. Available as a kit and PDF. Ready to stitch before the first day of Fall. I’m really glad it’s not hot here but, dang, it’s a little…chilly!
New Mirror Compact Kit
I’ve wanted to create this kit for a long time and finally found the perfect mirror. It has a polished, shiny black finish with a release button and regular and magnified mirrors inside! If you don’t recognize the lyrics, check out this Warhol video: Velvet Underground & Nico. You can practice your best Nico mirror moves while you sing along. And maybe, this time, not trim your bangs too short.
Scissor Reel by Carissa Browning
I’m not great at making product videos, at least the nice white background kind with everything lined up straight. LUCKILY, I saw Carissa’s gorgeous videos and she agreed to make one for us now and then. First up, SCISSORS! Watch the volume on this one if you’re in an office setting, by the way. Is Carissa great at this or WHAT? I’m completely wowed. Wanna see all these scissors in the shop? I can do that. Here!

Your New Friend on Substack!
Surely you know The Bloggess, Jenny Lawson. If you don’t, where do I start? Her blog has been around since blogging started, I think. And her books! Her books! They’re hilarious NYT bestsellers. Like, SERIOUSLY hilarious (even the covers of the translated versions are something to behold!) If you’ve ever suffered from depression or anxiety, she is an incredible virtual best friend. Her humor is unparalleled and her voice so personal and supportive, very much we’re-in-this-together. Just reading her work when I’ve been down has made a huge difference in my life. Also, you may remember we worked with her on a series of PDF patterns of quotes from her most recent book.
Good news! Jenny just started a substack called Jenny’s Substack: I forgot to mention she also had a NYT bestselling coloring book because she can also draw OF COURSE. Her substack is a way of getting her back into drawing and, by following her (in her words):
You’ll also be joining my one-year-of-art project team, which means you can leave comments and share links to what you’re working on that week…whether it’s journaling, or cross-stitch, or poetry, or tufting rugs in the shapes of vulvas. NO JUDGEMENT.
I encourage you to join in, it’s sure to be fun! I’ve been working on some pretty weird non-cross-stitch things, so this is perfect timing for me. Come play!
Feelin’ Stabby?
OH, I almost forgot—there’s a new needle minder in town!
Did you find me through Jenny’s Substack? I created a special discount to welcome you: friends of Jenny—take 20% off an Annual Paid Subscription for my substack. Here’s what you get.
I’ll be back next week with something extra for my paid subscribers! More info on subscriber levels below.
I hope you’re deep into a fun project. If not, I think we’ve got a LOT of options! Thanks again for subscribing and for all the love you send and the photos you share on IG. I LOVE seeing them! Tag us @subversivecrossstitch and please join our community on Instagram if you haven’t already.
Have a great weekend!
xoxo,

Did I find you first or Jenny first? Honestly, I can't remember, but I am delighted to have you both to help keep me closer to sanity. 😉
Yes it was the great Jenny Lawson who sent me here. Love your stuff.
